The political strategies and tactics of
the once mighty Liberal Party can be summarized into 2 points: 1- make sure
that the people will see former President Ferdinand Marcos as a hardline and
brutal dictator and 2- hold into power as the influential and powerful political
party election after election.
An editorial column from The Daily
Tribune names the different instances in our history that while those
politicians of the Liberal Party was always making sure putting the Marcoses into
bad light but shuns away or plays deaf to those instances that the Aquino’s
actions that have done the country- the editorial is replete with examples.
For purposes of public knowledge and
clarity we are quoting said editorial in full below:

Anti-BBM strategy
backfires on LP
When the Liberal Party (LP) seized power right after President Benigno
“Noynoy” Aquino III assumed office in 2010, its leaders started a shameless
six-year spending spree of public funds.
The LP also embarked on a campaign to demonize ex-President Ferdinand
Marcos and his family. That campaign was as rabid as the anti-Marcos policies
of President Corazon Aquino (1986-1992).
More specifically, the
LP’s campaign consisted of anti-Marcos documentaries broadcast on cable
television and the government channel, and similar feature articles published
in local newspapers and magazines.
The image of President Marcos portrayed in the LP propaganda campaign
was predictable, and repetitious to the point of causing nausea.
President Marcos was made to appear as a dictator who extended his hold
on power through brute force, and that he and his wife bled the nation’s
coffers dry during their stay in power; Marcos was “responsible” for the
assassination of Ninoy Aquino, the leading critic of the Marcos administration,
in 1983; and Marcos was the mastermind of the bombing of the LP proclamation
rally at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila on 21 August 1971.
There was also the other side of the LP propaganda campaign, which
portrayed Mrs. Aquino as the icon of Philippine democracy.
The LP propaganda, however, was conveniently silent about other, equally
historic facts.
For starters, the 1935 Constitution, in force in 1972, allowed President
Marcos to resort to martial law to prevent communist insurgents from
overthrowing the Philippines. That threat was real, as confirmed by actual news
footage taken of the violent rallies frequently held outside Malacañang, all
instigated by Jose Maria Sison’s Communist Party of the Philippines, from 1970
to September 1972.
Sison’s rallies prominently featured placards and mantras praising
Communist Chinese leader Mao Zedong.
Marcos remained in office beyond 1972 because his stay in power was
allowed by the 1973 Constitution, a charter drafted by a constitutional
convention headed by ex-President Diosdado Macapagal, a Marcos foe. Marcos was
eventually reelected in 1981 under the same charter.
In 1989, ex-communist cadres publicly admitted that Sison masterminded the Plaza Miranda bombing so that the political opposition will blame Marcos for it, and thus destabilize the country.
The Supreme Court consistently upheld the measures Marcos resorted to in order
to save the Republic from communism.
Likewise, the February 1986 uprising was peaceful only because Marcos
refused to allow his loyalist soldiers to use force on the people in that
uprising.
In 1987, Marcos wanted to return to the Philippines from his forced
exile in Hawaii, but Mrs. Aquino refused to issue him a passport. Marcos
petitioned the Supreme Court for help, but the Aquino-packed tribunal dismissed
his petition.
Although cases against President Marcos were filed in court to forfeit
his alleged “ill-gotten wealth,” those cases were won precisely because Marcos
was not allowed by the vindictive Mrs. Aquino to defend himself in Manila. In
fact, most of those cases were won only because Marcos had already passed away
in 1989 and was unable to defend himself anymore.
Mrs. Aquino abolished the Batasang Pambansa when she seized power. That
strategy allowed her to exercise executive and legislative powers, just like
Marcos did during martial law.
Further, Mrs. Aquino, the supposed press freedom icon, filed libel
charges against journalists who dared to criticize her.

In 1987, Mrs. Aquino ordered troops to violently disperse an anti-Aquino
rally near Malacañang in the infamous Mendiola Massacre.
Mrs. Aquino implemented a nationwide agrarian reform program, but
exempted her family’s vast Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac from its coverage.
Corruption was called “Kamag-anak Inc.”
Those are just some of Mrs. Aquino’s skeletons in the closet.
The LP had been demonizing President Marcos for decades, and it is now
using the same strategy against Marcos’ son, Bongbong Marcos (BBM), who is
running for president. Fortunately, voters have had enough of the LP’s lies.
This explains why BBM is very much ahead in the surveys.
