A very interesting article was written
by respected veteran journalist Mauro Gia Samonte of The Manila Times.
This was about the possible
presidency of the current Manila mayor Isko Moreno.
While the battle lines for the
national elections in 2022 is not yet clear, he gave a very interesting and
enlightening for those who are feeling that the young promising mayor is of
100% presidential.
For sake of transparency and
knowledge of all, we have quoted in full the said article of Mr. Samonte below:
Instead, I would rate
Isko on the matter of his desire to be president on things I don't like about
him.
First, he must not be too secretive about his ties,
however loose they may be, with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New
People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF). The communist terrorist
insurgency has been programmed by the government to be crushed by the end of
the year.
Isko must realize that his pro-democracy leanings are in fact the general sentiments of the Philippine oligarchy desirous of frustrating the socialist agenda of President Duterte for the country. And the President enjoys a more than 90 percent approval rating in this respect. It would be foolhardy for a presidentiable to take up a political stance in opposition to this now evident historic march to triumph of the government against the half-century muddle-headed Sisonite CPP-NPA-NDF insurgency. Readers of this column are well aware how I stand on this regard. It would be incredible if I support Isko in his presidential ambition while he maintains his pro-Sisonite insurgency stance.
On the eve of the
downfall of the communist terrorist insurgency, one cannot be a fence-sitter.
Either you are for or against that insurgency. By refusing to declare the
CPP-NPA-NDF persona non grata in Manila, does not Isko betray his strong
camaraderie with the communist terrorist group?
Let me quote
from Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. in his column in The Manila Times
the other day: "The people have been enlightened and they can no longer be
silenced. 53 years of violence and terrorism is simply too much for a people to
take. I suspect that if Sison would show up in any transport terminal in the
Philippines, 90 million people would come and disregard the queues to get ahead
in slapping him in the face until he bleeds to death. Yes, we cannot blame them
for any and all visceral reaction against Sison's physical appearance. The
other 20 million will wait to spit on his grave."
How could Isko
win the presidency when he counters the mass desire of the people who alone have
the power to vote him into office? Come election time, he will just have to
contend with the massive rage of a people gone ultimately free of the communist
terrorists. He cannot but lose.
So, there goes just
one of the many things I don't like about the Yorme. I certainly cannot side
with anybody who acts like a loser early on.
