Senator Manny Pacquiao is now openly
criticizing the chief executive, zeroing on what he called abusive war on drugs
of the administration.
In an interview with ABC5’s ‘One
News”, he said if elected to the highest position in the country, he tends to
carry out the war on drugs the “right way” stressing that there were many abuses
committed by President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration in its implementation.
“Kaya ko sinasabing ‘in the right
way’ kasi maraming karapatang pantao ang nalalabag,” said Pacquiao on One News’
The Chiefs without elaborating on his plan. “‘Wag nating sabihing perfect naman
‘yung (programa) nila sa pagresolba ng droga (kasi) maraming naaapakang
inosenteng tao.”

In 2016, the senator
defended the bloody drug war by attributing the widespread killings to drug
lords instead of state forces. But he later castigated erring police officers
who abused their power to create senseless deaths. He maintained, however, that
Duterte never ordered the grim slayings despite his past pronouncements.
Pacquiao also denied
the existence of extrajudicial killings over the past few years despite
numerous reports and evidence. He also supported proposals reinstating the
death penalty to execute drug syndicate leaders by firing squad.
“Inobserbahan ko siya
pero later on, na-realize ko na minsan din may naaabuso rin,” said Pacquiao on
News 5’s Deretsahan. “Mahalaga ang buhay pero ang gusto kong maparusahan at
ma-firing squad sa harapan ng mga tao ‘yung nagpapasok ng droga rito sa ating
bansa.”
