VP Leni : PH cannot afford another 6 years of Duterte style of administration

The Vice President has no inclinations of seeing a Duterte leading the nation again, that is for the next six years.

No wonder the unification talks have been cropping up with Leni Robredo in the center of all the talks.

In an interview with CNN, she downplayed the rumors regarding her reluctance to declare his candidacy for Malacanang in 2022 is because of the poor numbers under her name in some of the surveys being made public.

“I know that the 2022 elections are very important elections, it would determine what we want for the country in the next six years, after the elections… And sa akin (for me) I’ve repeatedly said this, na I don’t think that the country can last another six years with this kind of government practically because we’re in the middle of the pandemic.  And we saw how governance plays a very crucial role in crisis situations,” she said.

She explains that the next election is a bigger picture than her running for president, but about finding the solutions to the different problems being faced by the country today.

“‘Yong decision-making ko involves a lot of many factors, it’s not just the numbers kasi ‘yon ‘yong paniniwala ng iba, na what’s keeping me from deciding is just the numbers. Hindi ‘yon,” she said.

(My decision involves a lot of many factors, it’s not just the numbers because that is what other people think, that what’s keeping me from deciding is just the numbers. It’s not that.)

“‘Yong iba naman ang paniniwala parang personal convenience ko. Sabi ko, ‘I’m way past that’.  So hindi na ‘yong tanong na gusto mo bang magpangulo o hindi, kasi para sa akin, mas sense of duty na siya eh,” she added.

(Others meanwhile think it is borne out of my personal convenience.  I said that ‘I’m way past that.  So it’s no longer a question if you want to be president or not, because for me, it’s more of a sense of duty.)

Robredo again reiterates the need for unification of the opposition, since she feels the Duterte administration could have done better in addressing the pandemic.

“So sa akin ang paniniwala ko, obligasyon ko, obligasyon kong maghanap ng maraming mga options hindi para sa akin kung hindi para sa ikabubuti ng bansa.  And ‘pag sinabi natin na ikabubuti ng bansa, again it’s many different things,” she claimed.

(So for me, my belief is that it is my obligation to find several options not for me but regarding what would be best for the country. And if we say for the country’s welfare, again it’s many different things.)
