The heroes of the 2020 Tokto
Olympics have been formally acknowledged by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in
Malacanang.
Duterte gave
Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz P10 million for winning the country's first
gold medal.
The cash reward is
mandated under the Republic Act 10699 or the “National Athletes and Coaches
Benefits and Incentives Act."

Aside from this
reward, Diaz also received a P3 million cash incentive from the Office of the
President, P5 million from Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and
Philippine Sports Commission, and a housing unit from the National Housing
Authority.
National boxers, silver
medalist Nesthy Petecio also received P5 million, which is required under the
law, an additional P2 million from the Office of the President, and a housing
unit.

Cagayan De Oro’s pride
Carlo Paalam also received P5 million for winning the silver medal in the men's
flyweight division. He also got an additional P2 million from the President as
well as a housing unit.
Apart from the P2
million cash incentive required under the law, Eumir Marcial also received an
additional P1 million for bagging the bronze medal at the men’s middleweight
division.
Also in the event was the formal
recognition and release of the P500,000
incentive to 1996 Atlanta silver medalist Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco Jr.
from the Office of the President.
