“The
Philippine Navy assures Sen. Pacquiao that the acquisition of the two Jose
Rizal-class frigates were above board,” the Philippine Navy said in a statement
July 3.
“As
the end-user of the frigates, we were involved in all aspects of the
procurement process: market research, technical specifications, life cycle
support, building of the ships and platform integration in our Fleet. And we
ensured that all the details of the contract are fulfilled to the letter,” it
added.
In
a statement, National Defense secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana said “Sen Pacquiao,
the frigate deal has been thoroughly investigated by the senate in 2017 and
they found nothing anomalous. In fact, you were in one of the hearings,
Senator. Since you seem to be so sure of your allegations, it would be much
appreciated if you could provide details of this alleged corruption.”

“By
the way, Senator, those frigates were delivered last year ahead of schedule and
they passed the Navy’s Technical Inspection and Acceptance Committee,”
Secretary Lorenzana said.
