Lawmakers seeks SC's intervention, claims use of Ivermectin can fight Delta variant

Why the government seems to be ignoring the use of Ivermectin?

Doctors and lawmakers have failed to file in the High Court their petition of Mandamus, which will seek the power of the Supreme Court to mandate the government to allow the use of ivermectin to fight COVID-19 amid fears of the more transmissible Delta variant.

Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor, Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, Dr. Rafael Castillo and Dr. Iggy Agbayani were supposed to file a Petition for Mandamus seeking to compel the Department of Health (DOH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to facilitate and expedite the process of allowing the immediate manufacture, importation, prescription/use of ivermectin nationwide.

“Its about time we file a case before the Supreme Court because we feel that the dreaded Delta variant will be hitting the country soon either by August or early September,” said Defensor.

Marcoleta claimed that the DOH and FDA are ignoring the existing evidence to prove that ivermectin is effective.

“These two agencies are very subjective when it comes to Ivermectin,” Marcoleta said.

Castillo and Agbayani have expressed their belief that ivermectin can help in fighting the Delta variant.

“Tandaan nyo ang Delta variant ang original name nyan is Indian variant, nung ginamit po siya (ivermectin) ng malawakan sa India nakita naman na bumaba ang cases nila sa India,” said Agbayani, president of the Concerned Doctors and Citizens of the Philippines.

In addition, Agbayani said that there is a study done in Australia that has proven that Ivermectin can kill the COVID-19 virus.

Castillo is very positive for the drug because of what India has experienced in using it.

“There is very good reason to believe that kayang-kaya pa ng ivermectin because ivermectin works at different sites hindi lang sa isa, hindi lang isang site para mapigilan yung pag enter ng virus sa cell, pag nakapuslit yan nakapasok yung virus may mga mekanismo rin ang ivermectin to prevent the replication,” Castillo said.

Castillo added that the what happened to India was an “ultimate proof” that ivermectin works against the Delta variant.

“Yung sa India I think that’s the ultimate proof that ivermectin still works for the Delta variant biruin mo napakarami ng kaso nila, yung mga states or provinces na gumagamit ng ivermectin they were able to reduce it by 90-97% Samantala yung mga hindi gumagamit ng ivermectin eh yun tuloy-tuloy ang pagtaas ng kaso,” Castillo added.
