There were no survivors.

Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has just released a statement regarding the crash of one Philippine Air Force (PAF) S-70i Blackhawk helicopter. He extended sympathies to the families of three airmen and three pilots of the said helicopter.

“We at the Department of National Defense extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the three pilots and three airmen of an S-70i Blackhawk helicopter of the Philippine Air Force who perished when their [helicopter] crashed in the vicinity of Crow Valley near Clark Air Base, Pampanga, after undertaking a night proficiency flight on Wednesday evening, June 23,” Secretary Lorenzana said.

“In the meantime, the entire Blackhawk fleet are grounded while the incident is being investigated,” he added.

It crashed during night flight proficiency training

The S-70i Black Hawk Utility Helicopter, operating under 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing, on a night flight training figured in a mishap a few miles from Colonel Ernesto Rabina Air Base in Capas, Tarlac last night, June 23, 2021.

“The helicopter was earlier reported to be late from the estimated time of return to its station at Clark Air Base, Pampanga, thus, prompting the eventual search,” PAF added. “PAF search, retrieval, and recovery teams are diligently at work.”

“Night flight proficiency trainings are part of the capabilities of the pilots and crew, in this case the Blackhawk S70i, prior to their full deployment to assist our frontline units in their missions. Although with inherent risks, this competency is vital and necessary for the transport and logistics requirements of Unified Commands,” PAF explained.
