Aquino entered politics as representative of Tarlac’s second district in 1998. He served for three consecutive terms until 2007.

Aquino's health condition was put on the spotlight in December 2019. He was confined at a Makati hospital for a week to undergo a scheduled medical checkup.

"PNoy RIP (rest in peace). [He] was rushed to hospital early this morning and passed after efforts to revive failed. Please pray for him. Salamat (Thank you)," Roxas said in a statement.

Initial reports said Aquino was brought to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City early Thursday for undisclosed reasons.
