Why Trillanes for backchannel talks with China in 2012?! - Enrile

The appearance of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile in Malacanang to shed light what happened in 2012 when the Scarborough 2012 stand off happened, also gave new questions for us to ponder.

Ex-senator Antonio Trillanes IV was name dropped by Enrile, as the latter was supposedly designated by former Benigno Aquino III to conduct back channels duties with China during the Scarborough stand off.

The former senate President said it remains a “mystery” to him why Aquino authorized Trillanes to hold backchannel talks with China.

The former senator said he warned Aquino about the involvement of Trillanes in resolving the standoff.

Duterte said he also wants to know why Aquino chose someone with a military background like Trillanes for the backchannel talks which he described as “secretive.”

“I think he should explain to the nation how he got that kind of influence to be able to reach out to the higher ups in China? Not just anybody can talk to the politburo of China,” he said.
