Tunog Kalye Era: Did you know that 'Harana' Wasn't Originally Sung by Parokya ni Edgar

Ikaw din ba ngaun lang din nalaman?!

Parokya ni Edgar over the years have been churning hits after hits, one of the iconic ones is undoubtedly “Harana”. The ballad came out from the second album release (1997) of the band titled Buruguduystunstugudunstuy.

It became an ultimate hit and created a lot of cult following mostly from those boys who are courting girls in their high school and college life. And this have always marked as one of those songs that created Parokya what it is now.

But until now, a lot is still flabbergasted o find out that the Harana song popularized by Chito and his band is not their original song, but a cover from another equally talented recording artist.

For those who are still shocked, it was not Chito Miranda or any of his band members in Parokya ni Edgar who composed and first sung Harana.

For the record, “Harana” was originally composed by a guy named Eric "Yappy" Yaptangco, who is reportedly a senior of the PnE band members when they attended Ateneo De Manila University.

"Harana" was recorded by former Smokey Mountain member (and now Department of Finance assistant secretary) Tony Lambino in his album First Note, which was released in 1992.

But who can blame those hang up with Harana associated with Parokya, the latter made a lot in popularized and their own take in singing/playing the song made it such a quintessentially a Parokya song.
