Department of national Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin
Lorenzana announced that the ten (10) more Black Hawk helicopters will arrive
this year.
Lorenzana explains that the delivery is still part of the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)’s military’s capability upgrade program
.
In a tweet, Lorenzana shared photos
of the newly acquired S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

“Looking forward to the delivery of
the remaining 10 Blackhawks this year,” the Defense chief said.
The Philippines has earlier ordered 16 units of S-70i Black
Hawk helicopters, worth P12.1 billion, from PZL Mielec, the Polish subsidiary
of American aircraft leader Lockheed Martin.
The first six (6) units had already been delivered.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte earlier this year approved the
acquisition of additional Black Hawk helicopters to pave the way for the
decommissioning of the ageing Vietnam War-era
UH-1 Hueys helicopter.
The S-70i Black
Hawk are capable of transporting relief personnel and aid, are a necessity in
disaster-prone countries like the Philippines.
“For a country constantly beset by calamities and currently
battling a pandemic, transport helicopters like the ‘Black Hawks’ are an
absolutely necessary asset in our inventory that will allow the Armed Forces to
respond efficiently and effectively to critical situations,” DND spokesperson
Arsenio Andolong said in a statement.
“For instance, they can and will be used in airlifting relief
goods and first responders during disasters, as well as ferry supplies such as
perishable vaccines and medicines to far-flung areas that are difficult to
reach by land. The ‘Black Hawk’ transport helicopters will evacuate people
during emergencies, and can fly critically-ill or injured patients to medical
facilities when time is of the essence,” Andolong said.
