A few days ago Malacanang made a
statement that the country s stepping up its show of flag in the Kalayaan Island
Group.
Despite the limited floating
assets of the country, the government agencies involved will patrol the area
and will shoe the Philippine flag in the Philippine maritime territory.
“The presence of Philippine maritime security and law
enforcement forces
have been stepped up in the municipality of Kalayaan to protect Filipino
fishermen and the marine resources,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said
in a press statement.
The statement was given at the
same time the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) filed two diplomatic notes
against China after 200 Chinese vessels were spotted in the Julian Felipe Reef
on April 11.
CNN Philippines published pictures
of Philippines’ maritime asset doing the sovereignty patrols in the area.
The Philippine Coast Guard
deployed one its Parola-class patrol vessel, the BRP Cabra (MMRV-4409) together
with two Spanish-made Rodman 101 patrol boats.
It is expected that the PCG would
bring in more sea assets in the the disputed region.
