NEVER AGAIN! PRRD to Order PHL Ships To ‘Stay Put’ In Case Of Another Standoff With China in the WPS

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte made sure the major blunder done during the administration of his predecessor Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III as to the management of a stand off in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) never happens again.

Duterte in his televised address to the nation last April 19 said that he will order the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and resupply ships “to stay put” in case another standoff with China occurs.

“The constructive occupation of China happened during the Aquino administration. May isang barko doon nagpadala tayo. There was a standoff. A standoff that was maybe going to a violent stage sa… Alam mo, ang nagpa – ang nagpa-alis sa atin, ang Amerika. Ang usapan ang Pilipinas magretreat, ang China mag-retreat. Ang ginawa ng China hindi nag-retreat, ang Pilipinas ang nag-retreat,” Duterte said.

“The constructive occupation of the West Philippine Sea com – was completed by the singular act of China not retreating,” he said.

“Iyan ano sa International Law, ganoon ‘yan. Ikaw ‘yong umalis, ibig sabihin hindi iyo. At bakit umalis? Eh itong si Secretary Albert pag-usap ng Amerikano, takot ng giyera. Takot na… Eh sana hinayaan na lang nila. Ang totoo niyan, susmaryosep, ayaw ko lang magyabang,” President Duterte added.

“Kung mangyari uli ‘yan – ako I’m – I’m putting China to – I do not want any quarrel. But in a situation like that, if repeated in this – in my administration, I think there will going to be a… Talagang hindi ako aalis,” Duterte said. “At saka kung may barko ako diyan ngayon, ‘yong Coast Guard nandiyan, hindi rin ako mag-alis. I will not. Maraming — sabi nga ni Secretary Lorenzana, mga resupply natin, iyong mga Coast Guard natin, if they are driven away, I would tell them to stay put.”
