The demand for the vaccine to control
this pandemic is so high that the news brought about by the Department of Trade
and Industry is very much welcomed.
Local pharmaceutical firms has
signified there intention to start the domestic vaccine manufacture to meet the
country’s demand for fighting the COVID-19.
One local pharmaceutical firm
Glovax Biotech is looking to start its “fill and finish” operations for vaccine
manufacturing by October next year, while United Laboratories Inc. may begin its own by 2023,

Other firms talking with
government for the local vaccine manufacturing are IG/IP Biotech and Dr. Zen
Biotech Inc. Fill and finish, which is the final step in vaccine manufacturing,
involves putting vaccine doses into vials.
Secretary Ramon Lopez’s has
showed to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte Glovax’s proposed location for vaccine
manufacturing is in Clark in Pampanga.
Glovax has signed a P7.5-billion
agreement with South Korean vaccine manufacturer Eubiologics for the local
production of COVID-19 vaccines.
“It will be the first of its kind
in the country,” Giovani Alingog, Glovax Biotech chairman and president, told
The STAR over the phone. “It will be the start of a biotech industry here in
the country.”
Alingog said this is a good news
for the country’s readiness for pandemics. “A pandemic is becoming a regular
event,” he said, noting that the world has been confronting pandemics almost
every 10 years, beginning with SARS in 2003.
Another good news is the pledge of
Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) and his MVP Group of Companies supports Glovax.
“He (MVP) said he will support
Glovax to help the government and President Duterte,” Alingog said.
