The country’s armed forces despite its limited capacities
will not take it sitting down.
It was recently announced by the Armed Forces of the
Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana said
during the #LagingHandaPH Press Briefing on February 9 that more naval assets
will be deployed in West Philippine Sea.
“Iyong pronouncement ng China na their Coast Guard can open
fire to people intruding into their territory, it’s very alarming po iyan,” AFP
Chief of Staff Sobejana said.

“I should say it’s a very irresponsible
statement dahil ang ating mga kababayan ay hindi naman pumunta sa lugar na iyan
sa disputed area para makikipaggiyera kung hindi naghahanapbuhay,” he
explained.
“So, ang gagawin natin as part of our mandate
to secure the people, increase po natin iyong ating visibility through the
deployment of more naval asset,” he said.
However, he noted that “our Navy presence there
is not to wage war against China but to secure our people.”
