No way! Ex-DILG Alunan seeks arrest of Makabayan bloc over sedition

“Ginagago tayo.”

This is the old statement of former Interior and Local Government Secretary Rafael Alunan III as he calls for the arrest of the lawmakers belonging to the Makabayan bloc following their suspected links to the armed communist rebel group.

In his Facebook post, Alunan said the government should arrest all the lawmakers comprising the Makabayan bloc and should stop listening the reasons of the group.

“FOR THE LONGEST TIME GINAGAGO TAYO. NAGPAPAGAGO NAMAN TAYO. TAMA NA!” he said.

“Shut down the Makabayan bloc and have them arrested for seditious and rebellious acts inimical to our national interest, including those who aid and abet them,” he added.

The former DILG secretary made the statement after the current DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said Makabayan lawmakers are constitutionally required to condemn the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army. Refusing to denounce the armed rebel group showed the truth of the organization, Año said.

“As we continue to innovate democracy to seek peace at home, we’ve taken risky choices, such as this. A lot of time has passed for sincerity to set in, but hasn’t, detrimental to the state of the nation. It’s time to hard ball to end the charade,” Alunan said.

The Makabayan lawmakers have been quoted earlier denying the allegations that they serve as communist terrorist front organizations of CPP-NPA and recruit young college students and indigenous people to join the ranks.
