PH to get $18-M worth of precision-guided ammunition from the US

 

Good news for the Philippines!

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will receive USD18 million worth of precision-guided munitions from the United States next month, Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.

“They have given us USD18 million worth of (military) equipment (that will arrive) next month. Those are precision-guided munitions that can be dropped with pinpoint accuracy,” The Defense Secretary said during an interview in the send off of BRP Tarlac bound for Catanduanes.

The BRP Tarlac was deployed to typhoon-battered Catanduanes for a relief mission, carrying around 240 tons of assorted relief goods and construction materials from different government agencies, non-government organizations, and private individuals. 

LD601 is also carrying heavy equipment, trucks and trailers from Naval Combat Engineering Brigade and Marine Battalion Landing Team 9 for clearing operations and rehabilitation efforts.

Lorenzana did not give specifics on the munitions.

He said he recently had a meeting with John Law, chargés d’affaires of the US Embassy in Manila, during which they discussed the Visiting Forces Agreement, US concerns over the West Philippine Sea, US foreign policy, military equipment they were offering to the Philippines, and pandemic-related assistance.
