The Tucanos were purchased under a P4.968 billion contract issued in 2017 that includes a two-month training for PAF pilots.

According to the DND, the Super Tucanos will be beneficial in counterinsurgency efforts with their electro-optical infrared and laser-firing technology.

These brand new assets of the PAF’s is under the 15th Strike Wing which will support and eventually replace the remaining OV-10 Bronco and SF-260 attack planes.
