Russia wants to establish a COVID- vaccine manufacturing site in PH - DFA Sec.

The long awaited vaccine for the novel coronavirus 2019 disease might be closer if the Philippine government would just decide to agree with its Russian counterparts.

The government of Russia has again expressed its readiness to establish a vaccine manufacturing facility in the country, this according to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said.

The DFA Secretary got the information from his counterpart Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev during a recent farewell call.

“Russia is willing to put up manufacturing facility in the Philippines which, I told the good ambassador Igor Khobaev, makes eminent sense,” Locsin said in a tweet last Oct. 7.

If established this will help the country in the production of the much needed vaccines in the event the coronavirus mutates into other forms of illness.

“This virus will stay and keep mutating so we need the capacity to keep adapting and putting out vaccines for every variation,” he said.

A few weeks ago, Russia offered to supply coronavirus vaccines to the country following a recent breakthrough on Sputnik V, its potential vaccine for the contagious novel coronavirus 2019 disease.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte even offered to be the first to get inoculated with the vaccines as a gesture of trust and gratitude to Russia.
