The Vice President was very quick to slam the action of
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in giving a presidential pardon to US Marine Joseph
Scott Pemberton.
Chief Presidential Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo called out
the Vice President Leni Robredo in insinuating that the act of the Chief Executive
acr of giving an absolute pardon to Pemberton is a proof that this
administration favors the powerful.
“Paano niya nasabi ‘yun, eh gaya nga ng sinabi ko, eh 135 nga
ang na-pardon eh, apat lang ang dayuhan,” Panelo said in an interview over
state-run PTV-4.

Panelo even explained that a lot of “big fish” in the fight
against the illegal trade of drugs, which resulted to the killing of thousands
of individuals.
“Hindi ba, marami nang nakulong na malaking tao. Lalo na
‘yung mayayaman na involved sa droga, public officials pa, mga tinanggal ni
Presidente,” according to him.
The Vice President in a prepared statement slammed President
Duterte and calls the latest act of giving presidential pardon to the US Marine
as a mis priority among the different problems the country is facing.
"Ang tanong nga natin: Patas at makatarungan ba ang
naging desisyong ito? Isa lang ang kasong ito sa maraming patunay ng pagkiling
sa makapangyarihan na nakikita natin mula sa pamahalaan. Ang nakikita natin:
Kapag mahirap, may parusa; kapag mayaman at nasa poder, malaya," she said.
The Vice President also implores that the President should exercise his
pardoning power in a manner fair to everybody.
"We continue to hope that the
President exercises his vast powers in a manner that is fair and that benefits
the common Filipino," she added.
