Padilla supports Pres. Duterte grant of pardon to Pemberton: such action will strengthen friendship between PH and US

Actor Robin Padilla has publicly again thrown his support for the action of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in granting pardon to the convicted serviceman.

A few days back US Marine Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton was given a presidential pardon by the Chief Executive.

In 2014, Pemberton was was convicted for the 2014 killing of transgender woman Jennifer Laude.

Padilla in his Facebook post said Duterte was right in granting pardon to Pemberton. Padilla further clarifies that a convict that has served half of his prison term, by law could avail of good conduct time allowance.

“Tama ang ginawa ni mayor PRRD,” Padilla said.

“It was the most compassionate decision not only for the americans but for us as well,” he said.

The actor said the act of the President would also strengthen the friendship of the Philippines and the United States. Most especially now since the country might need the help of the latter in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

“One way or the other we will soon need them and this pardon strengthens that bond of friendship between us as people,” he said.

“Ang panahon ng pandemya ay oras ng pakikipagbuklod kay bigbrother,” he said.

Padilla is like Pemberton, because he also received an absaolute pardon from President Duterte in 2016, he was serving his prison time following his conviction for illegal possession of firearms.
