EU has no right to dictate Philippine sovereignty - Panelo

Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo slammed the European Parliament’s resolution and would have none of it.

He reminds them that they don’t have the right to dictate how the Philippines manages its own internal affairs, being a sovereign and independent nation.

In his TV show “Counterpoint” aired in the government channel PTV-4, he said that the EU must mind its own business and stop interfering with the country’s internal political matters.

“No country can interfere, can intrude into the affairs of this country. Hindi sila dapat nakikialam,” he said, regarding the resolution adopted by members of the European Parliament last September 17 condemning the alleged continued deterioration of the human rights situation in the country.

Panelo reiterates that the Philippines, continues to observe due process in respect to the country’s Constitution.

“Meron tayong Constitution, meron tayong batas, merong tayong rule of law, meron tayong due process at hayaan nila tayo rito. Sila’y mag-concetrate doon sa kanilang mga problema sa kani-kanilang bansa,” he said.

“Yung mga binabanggit nila yun naman galing sa mga critics at detractors na pinalalaki yung maliit, yung wala binibigyan ng buhay. Yan ang problema,” he added.
