that kind of thing where the people do not chose you, rather was decided by a machine.
That seems to be the thing running on the mind of senator Imee
Marcos with respect to the choice of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of the Smartmatic
as the technology service provider for the upcoming 2022 national elections.
In a radio interview, the senator from Ilocos Norte said Smartmatic
appears to “box out” other technology companies in bidding since the prevailing
law states that bidders should have an experience providing technology in two
previous elections.

“Meron din largest contract, siyempre
Smartmatic ‘yan. ‘Yun ang problema natin,” she said.
The lady senator is not against to the appointments of
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of COMELEC commissioners, but clarified that she
is concern of those commissioners who are loyal to Smartmatic.
“Sa Comelec, I think we have to be very careful. Ang usapan
‘di loyalty sa nag-appoint. Ang tinatanong sinong loyal sa Smartmatic. Sana ‘di
naman totoo and makapasok ang ibang supplier,” she said.
The Argentinian firm Smartmatic has been providing the
technology for automated elections in the Philippines since 2010.
Senator’s Imee, former senator Bongbong Marcos claimed he was
cheated in the 2016 vice presidential race by Leni Robredo through Smartmatic.
