UP Experts: 220,000 projected Covid cases as of end-August, MECQ may cut it by 50K-70K

Shape up Philippines it’s about time that Bayanihan spirit be transformed into a hard core discipline in our fight as a nation against the invisible enemy that is the highly infectious novel coronavirus 2019 disease.


Based on a University of the Philippines (UP) OCTA Research Team study by the end of August there will be a projected 220,000 coronavirus cases in the country.


That is why the government declared modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) to put a stop to this being a reality. The reimposition of the lockdown is precisely to stop the increase and gain hold of again of the spread of the disease.

The modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) is reimposed and takes effect in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.

University of the Philippines Professor Ranjit Rye said that the MECQ may be able to reduce the number of infections from 50,000 up to 70,000.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared that the NCR and nearby provinces will be placed under MECQ midnight of August 4 -18.
