One of the fiercest critic of the
Duterte administration is pinning some blame on President Duterte for the recent
Jolo, Sulu bombings.
Former Senator Antonio Trillanes blames
the President for the scrapping of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) with the
United States of America resulting to the weakening of the anti-terrorism campaign
of the Armed of the Philippines (AFP).
“The twin bombings
yesterday in Jolo prove that the AFP’s counterterrorism efforts have been
crippled by the suspension of the VFA (thru US’ ISR ops),” he tweeted.

“Mr.
duterte, this is on you,” the former Oakwood mutineer said.
As per reports atleast
fourteen (14) people were killed and several others were injured when two
powerful blasts ripped through a town plaza in Jolo.
Initial reports from
the AFP said these were perpetuated by suicide bombers.
It might be
remembered that last February, the President announced the Philippines’ pullout
from the VFA agreement with the US. Prior to that, former Philippine National
Police (PNP) Chief and now senator Ronaldo Dela Rosa’s US visa was cancelled by
the US embassy in Manila.

But last June, the
President decided to suspend the abrogation citing recent political and other
developments in the region.
