Signing of Anti-Terror law: A horrific day for PH - Bayan Muna rep. Zarate

The bill that was overwhelmingly voted upon in the halls of Congress is now a full pledge law after the president signed it into such.
Members of the Makabayan bloc especially Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate said President Rodrigo Duterte’s signing of the Anti-Terrorism Act “did not come as a surprise since he certified it as urgent to concentrate more tyrannical powers in his hands at the expense of the rights of our people.”

“This is indeed a horrific day for the country as another darker era for human rights looms. Malacanang naman din ang naglamadali ng terror bill na iyan kaya di na nakakapagtaka,” said Zarate.

After months of protest from the opposition lawmakers and human right groups the proposed measure was finally signed by the President Friday (July 4).
“We would have to continue the fight in all fronts until this terror law is junked. We will question its constitutionality at the Supreme Court at the soonest time possible,” Zarate said.

“We call on all freedom loving Filipinos to be very vigilant because darker days are ahead,” he said.
“We must remain united and report any and all violations of human rights. An attack on one is an attack on everyone. We will show them that in the face of repression an awakened people will resist and fights back,” Zarate said.
