Opposition senator
Franklin Drilon has no words to say to the Lopez-controlled ABS-CBN Corporation
but simply to try again in 2022 – when President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is no
longer the President of the republic.
Drilon said ABS-CBN
has no choice but to wait since its renewal application was overwhelmingly
denied by the House Legislative Franchises Committee’s vote of 70-11.
“Sad to say, the
ABS-CBN will have to wait until 2022 when the new Congress is elected to apply
again for the renewal of its franchise,” Drilon said in a
statement.

The Liberal Party
veteran lawmaker said the fate of the ABS-CBN is reminiscent of the dark age
experienced by the country during the years of martial law under the President
Marcos regime.
“After monitoring the
exhaustive proceedings in the House of Representatives, I am more convinced
that the only fault of ABS-CBN is it stepped on some powerful political toes,
hence the sword has been unleashed on it,” he said.
Absence of a
franchise, the employees of the Kapamilya network are now officially jobless.
“The ABS-CBN as an
institution can survive this episode, no doubt, but the people whose livelihood
depends on the network are the real casualties of this unfortunate and
politically-charged event,” he said.
