Vice President Maria
Leonor “Leni” Robredo is concerned with the alleged corruption in the state
owned corporation- the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
Corruption has
resurfaced in Philhealth when PhilHealth anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Montes
Keith resigned on July 23, citing “widespread corruption” within the agency.
The Vice President
sees the mismanagement of Philhealth will directly affect the medical
assistance it provides Filipinos, most particularly from the poor sector.Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo (photo credit to owner) |
“Ito nakakabahala
kasi ngayon ‘yung panahon na pinakakailangan natin ang PhilHealth kasi marami
sa ating ang nagkakasakit,” she said on her radio show.
“Marami sa
nagkakasakit hindi kayang bayaran ‘yung cost ng kanyang hospitalization,
kanyang medication,” the Vice President added.
Philhealth chief
Ricardo Morales has denied all the allegations of graft and corruption, and
even challenged Keith to back up his claims by pieces of evidence he can
produced.
The President has
already called for an investigation of the alleged corruption in the government
owned and controlled company. Senate is also planning to conduct its own probe.
