The COVID-19 pandemic affected the delivery date of the planes from Brazail which was originally scheduled to arrive at the end of February this year.
The country ordered six (6) Super Tucanos from Brazil, this is in pursuance of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program – Horizon 1.
Once commissioned it will be part of the PAF's 15th Strike Wing, and will augment the remaining North American Rockwell OV-10 "Bronco" attack aircraft used by the Air Force in strike missions.

"They are a welcome and much-needed replacement for the PAF's aged, close air support aircraft, and their mission versatility and capability to carry a variety of ordnance will be very useful in the field," he added.
According to Embraer, the aircraft in PAF service will be deployed for close air support, light attack, surveillance, air-to-air interception, and counterinsurgency missions.
