Opposition senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Risa
Hontiveros are in unison in slamming President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for not having
a comprehensive plan to address the global pandemic and the massive corruption
at the hilippine Health
Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) in his State of the Nation Address (SoNA).
“Amidst the worst crisis the country is
facing, not mentioned were the concrete plans to stop the continuing spread of
COVID, plans to ease the hunger and unemployment of millions of our people, and
plans to address missed targets for mass testing and contact tracing,” Senator
Kiko said in a statement.
“Not mentioned was how to fast-track
the distribution of the second tranche of ayuda that until now has not been
received by many. Also not mentioned were the widespread irregularities and
corruption in PhilHealth, and the overpriced medical equipment,” he added.

The opposition senator and
current Liberal Party president reiterates the Duterte should fire PhilHealth officials and Health Secretary Francisco Duque
III for the alleged corruption in the health insurance company and the apparent
inefficient response from the Health Department.
“With the corruption in PhilHealth, the
removal of Duque and PhilHealth executives from office should have been
announced. It seems that the problem of the still-spreading COVID and the
subsequent economic collapse will not be solved,” he ended his statement.
Hontiveros
calls Duterte mispriority in the fight against COVID-19
Senator
Rissa Hontiveros reminded the Chief Executive that CoID-19 is the enemy of the
country and not media, activists, and the Filipino people.
“The president’s SoNA was not a SoNA.
It was not the state of the nation, it was not even an address. Hindi iyon ang
totoong estado ng bansa,” she said in a separate statement.
“Mas pinalalala ng krisis sa pamamahala
ng gobyernong ito ang krisis sa COVID-19,” said Hontiveros.
(The crisis in governance of this
government worsened the crisis on COVID-19.)
“Instead of laying down a comprehensive
plan for the country to combat COVID-19, the President opened his SoNA by
assailing his critics and ranting about his personal grudge against the media.
Clearly, walang maayos na plano,” she pointed out.
In defense of an ally in Drilon
The lady senator also slammed the
Presaident for his act of swiping in his speec Minority Floor leader Franklin
Drilon.
“The oligarchies clustered around the
president himself. The president makes no promise unchain government from
serving vested interests,” she said.
“The President uttered the same
incoherent statements that did not present a health and economic roadmap that
could lead us through this pandemic. Issues of unemployment and hunger were not
directly addressed. Walang trabaho at gutom ang mga Pilipino, pero ang mga
inunang isyu — death penalty, drug war, at kung anu-ano pa,” she added.
(Filipinos have no work and are hungry,
but the issues that were given priority–death penalty, drug war and others.)
