Not so fast!
Department of Justice
(DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra quashed any insinuations that the detained
opposition senator Leila De Lima will now be released because of the death of Jaime
Sebastian.
Gueverra gave the
assurance that Sebastian’s death will not affect the detention of senator Leila
de Lima.

“The prosecution has
an array of witnesses,” said the DOJ secretary.
“Many of them have
already testified in court,” he added.
Sebastian is a State
witness and at the same time co-accused of the opposition senator in the drug
charges she is facing before the Muntinlupa City regional trial courts (RTC).
Among the big
testimonies of Sebastian was that he gave de Lima 14 million as contribution
for her 2016 senatorial campaign war chest which was sourced from the illegal
drug trade conducted inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Govt will not stop fabricating evidence for her to stay in detention
“The Duterte regime can have 100 live witnesses
for all I care,” the detained senator said Monday. “But this still does not
change the fact that the charges against me are absolutely false and
fictitious.”
De Lima added, “Conversely, the regime’s
witnesses can all be dead, but this will not prevent Duterte and his operators
from inventing other evidence to keep me in jail.”
