China
also watched and listened to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s speech in his fifth

"Since
the outbreak of Covid-19, China and the Philippines have been standing together
with mutual assistance, turning anti-epidemic cooperation into a new highlight
in bilateral relations. The Philippines is a friendly close neighbor and we
will give priority to its needs once we succeed in developing a vaccine,"
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said in a press conference in
Beijing.
The
statement comes after Duterte in his SONA address said he personally asked Chinese
President Xi Jinping to allow Manila to be the first nation to receive its
vaccine once it passed all clinical trials.
Aside
from Beijing, the country is also in talks with other international firms
making a vaccine against COVID-19 such as US-based Pfizer, Johnson &
Johnson, and Moderna.
