A day before the House
Legislative Franchise Committee denied the grant of a
new 25 year legislative franchise of the Lopez-controlled ABS-CBN Corporation
known President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ally, Senator Ronald Bato was asked
regarding the 11,000 employees of ABS-CBN in the event its permanently shot
down.
The senator answered
that he sees no widespread impact in the country if in case the franchise
renewal of the Kapamilya network is denied.
He further answers
that the impact of the permanent closure will be limited to its employees.
“Wala akong
nakikitang epekto. Epekto? Hindi naman ako apektado dahil hindi naman ako
[taga-] ABS-CBN. Yung taga-ABS-CBN ang apektado,” he said.
The senator further
reasons out that other media companies can provide the content being produced
in ABS-CBN , such as its news and current affairs.
“Ako, wala akong
nakikitang epekto dahil kung sabihin niyo mawalan din ng news, meron naman din
yung ibang mga ibang news outfits na nagpe-perform. So, wala akong nakitang
epekto, sa akin. Sa buong community as a whole, wala rin akong nakikita,” he
added.
