RA 11479, or the Anti-Terrorism Law of 2020 is living up to its
name being a controversial legislation passed under the Rodrigo Roa Duterte
administration.
A lot of groups are already voicing out their strong opposition to the said law, headed by the political opposition, progressive and left leaning groups, United Nations human rights body and the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, and some members of the academe.

As of date there are already petitions filed before the Supreme Court
questioning its validity.

Its good to note that the petition filed by Albay representative Edcel
Lagman and the left-leaning bloc of the House of Representatives are not only
questioning provisions in the law, but want the High Court to nullify the whole.
National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr. in an exclusive interview with Dobol B sa News TV hits back to those critics who are opposing the landmark legislation and
even said that those who opposes it could be "supporters" of
terrorists.
He maintains that the
new anti-terrorism law does not target activists and dissenters of the
government or the current administration.
"Doon sa definition ng terrorism, Section
4, sinasabi doon na hindi kasali ang mga dissent, advocacy, mass actions, at
other similar exercise of civil and political rights. Nandoon mismo sa
definition ng terrorism yan," he said.
"So anong sinasabi nila na mawawalan ng
human rights? Palagay ko yung mga nagsasabi niyan, yung mga supporter ng mga
terorista," he added.
RA 11479, or the
Anti-Terrorism Law of 2020 was signed into law
by President Duterte last July 3.
