The recent inauguration
of the beach ramp in Pag-asa island under the Municipality of Kalayaan was a
historic and momentous event to the residents as well as to the military.
Since the 1980’s no
improvement has been done and its only now under the Duterte administration the
construction has been on full blast.
Per Secretary of
Defense Delfin Lorenzana the much delayed rehabilitation of the Rancudo airfield
is the next big project the government will do, now that the beaching ramp is
complete necessary construction materials will be much easier to bring to the
island.

But one surprising
event happened during the inauguration upon setting foot in the island, members
of the group that went their received messages welcoming them to China and
Vietnam!
“Welcome to CHINA!
Stay connected with Smart GigaRoam! Activate 3GB Data valid for 15 days.”
“Welcome to Vietnam!”
This development made
Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Boy Locsin Jr, fuming mad so much
so that he demanded the Manuel V. Pangilinan led PLDT Inc. to drop its roaming
partnerships with China and Vietnam.
In his tweet he said:
“To PLDT. Just drop that roaming partnership shit with China and Vietnam. You
fuckers are making my work harder. I don’t give 2 shits what your business plan
is for that arrangement. Drop it before I visit you.”
The three countries
have overlapping claims in the South China Sea, of which the West Philippine
Sea is part of.
Smart Communications' response
According to Smart
Communications spokesperson Ramon Isberto explained that
cellphone signals from China and Vietnam could reach the island which is the
reason why the group got different text messages.
Smart’s own cell site
on the island is also down, the spokesperson added.
As for the idea of constructing our own cell site which will greet
foreign visitors with “Welcome to the Philippines.”
“No, we don’t have to set up anything. We just
ban SMART from shit partnerships like that. That’s why we are the state and
SMART is just a Philippine company,” the DFA Sec. said
