The Vice President who
is being pushed by her partymates and allies in the opposition to head the Inter-Agency
Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases for a more organized government
response against the COVID-19 has something to say with respect to what is
happening in Cebu city.
In an exclusive interview
with Karen Davila’s ANC show Headstart Vice President Leni Robredo said the
Duterte admin’s realign how it sees the pandemic, that it should be viewed as a
public health crisis and not as one that needs the presence and help of the
government troops.
“I saw pictures of Cebu
yesterday and ‘yung nakita ko military. Parang hindi siya magandang visualization
for the people na ‘this is a health pandemic, bakit may mga tangke sa daan?’ Sa
akin, the military has been very helpful, even to our office, pero I think we
should take a more public health approach,” she said.

She is of the opinion
that the military hinders the public to be more helpful to government policies
because the response is being elicited out of fear.
“Ako personally, I have
faith na, if people understand why we need to do this, if people understand
that they have a stake, they have a responsibility, that governance is a shared
responsibility, mas magiging cooperative sila rather than tinatakot,” she said.
President Rodrigo Roa
Duterte appointer Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Sec
Roy Cimatu to spearhead the government’s efforts in containing the spread of
the infection.
Cebu city currently has
