VP Leni re Anti-Terrorism Act: Para sa mga terorista o kritiko?




The second highest elected official of the land has also her reservations regarding the proposed Anti-Terrorism bill.
Vice President Leni Robredo issued a statement hours before the said bill in the House of Representative was passed on final reading, she posed the question:

“Terorismo ba talaga ang tuon ng Terror Bill? O gusto lang nitong bigyan ng kapangyarihan ang estado para bansagang terorista kung sino man ang kanilang gusto?”

“Especially in the wrong hands—in the hands of people who have no qualms about using disinformation, inventing evidence, or finding the smallest of pretexts to silence its critics—napakamapanganib ng kapangyarihang ito,” Robredo said.
Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 has been the hot topic amongst our lawmakers, because those who are against it, because of the broad definition of terrorism and eases restrictions on the arrest of its violators.


They fear because it can be weaponized against those individuals or groups who criticizes the government despite a legitimate concern is raised.

Robredo even questions the wisdom of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in certifying the bill as urgent, amidst the many challenges we are facing as a nation because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Itutok sana ng bawat institusyon ang buo at walang-kahating atensyon sa pagtugon sa mga pinakaagaran at pinakamahahalagang pangangailangan,” Robredo said.
“Huwag madaliin ang pagpanday ng batas, lalo na ang mga batas na direktang nakakaapekto sa buhay at paraan ng pamumuhay ng napakarami sa atin. Sikapin sana nating maisalamin nito ang saloobin at adhikain ng taumbayan,” she added.
