The better half of
celebrity and current Ormoc city mayor Richard Gomez, Leyte 4th district Congresswoman
Lucy Torres-Gomez is also having her share of airtime when she public supported
the Anti-Terrorism bill through her post in Facebook.
In her defense of the
measure, she said terrorists are “literally having ‘more fun in the Philippines’”
for lack of tougher laws against terrorism there is one legislation enacted last
2017 the Human Security Law of 2007 but is deemed archaic.
In her Facebook post
she stated that critics should read first the measure before passing judgment “not
rely on second-hand opinions of others, who may have been influenced by those
who twisted the interpretation of actual sections of the bill to suit
their accusations.”

She said that the terroristic bombing could have been
prevented if the Human Security Act of 2007, which the anti-terror bill seeks
to essentially repeal, provided for the arrest of foreign nationals suspected
of the conduct of terrorism.
“It would be wise to review the Human Security Act of 2007 to
understand its significant shortcomings, such that a new law to repeal it was
deemed necessary,” she said.
“The most glaring is that the HSA is not
equipped to help us PREVENT a terrorist act from being undertaken,” the
lawmaker added.
In 13 years only 1 under the HAS was convicted under the
measure, a person involved in the Marawi siege.

She notes the country’s “inability” to arrest
and prosecute suspected terrorists “keeps law enforcement’s hands tied until a
terrorist event occurs.”
“It’s like giving the terrorists a free pass, telling them that we are just going to watch their acts of terror unfold first, and then we get our cue to run after them,” Gomez said.

“The terrorists are literally having ‘more fun
in the Philippines,’ because our laws allow it so. This makes us a very
conducive venue to undertake, plan and prepare for terrorist activities,” she
added.
The
country has become a “haven” for terrorist groups.
