The Anti-Terrorism
Act is now a very controversial law not because of its implementation but
because of the different personalities ang group that are against it becoming a
law.
A lot of information
both legit and fake have been flooding the different social media platforms
regarding the said law, which has been already submitted to Malacanang awaiting
the signature of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,
One of its principal
author in the Senate is Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III which did not
held back his opinion against those who are criticizing the Anti-Terrorism Act
which they say will pave the way for targeting activists.

In an exclusive interview with AM radio DZBB (June 8), the Senate
President said: “Hindi naman talaga terrorism ang activism. Sinong gago na
nagsabi na activism is terrorism?”
The Senate President said the bill does not
target government critics, but terrorists.
“Dapat member ka ng terrorist organization.
Member ka ba? Hindi pala eh, bakit ka umaangal? Kung hindi kayo member, magwala
kayo, murahin niyo ang Presidente, laitin niyo kami, go ahead, hindi kayo
kasama sa Anti-Terror law. Puwede libel, defamation, pero hindi sa
Anti-Terrorism law,” he said.
Sotto also addressed
those critics who have been calling out the government in giving priority to
the Anti-Terrorism bill instead of the much needed policies addressing poverty
in the nation most especially now that there is a COVID-19 pandemic, as those
who are living in a “perfect world.”
“Mali ‘yun [na dapat
sugpuin ang kahirapan at kawalan katarungan sa paglaban ng terorista]. They
want to live in a perfect world. Hindi naman ‘yun ang problema ng terorista eh.
Ang problema ng terrorista, ideology. Ang tinatarget ng Anti-Terror bill ay
yung ideolohiya na guluhin ang gobyerno,” he said.
