Senator Grace Poe is taking note of the current situation as
regards the commuting public and the mass transportation situation in our streets.
Biking is seen as a great alternative as the problems brought
about by COVID-19 still affects everything, ushering a new normal.
In support to the new normal of biking as a form of transportation
she assures all bikers that there will be enough funding for the construction
of bike lanes.
Poe notes that there
is fund for construction of bike lanes in the Department of Transportation’s
(DOTr) P17-billion budget.
“Our
bikers must no longer risk life and limb as they exert patient legwork in
traversing our roads (Hindi na dapat malagay sa alanganin ang buhay ng ating
mga kababayan sa kanilang pagbibisikleta sa lansangan),” Poe said.
Currently
the DOTr is coordinating with the Metro Manila Development Authority for the
provision of bike lanes.
Earlier San
Juan City and Taguig have declared their intention to introduce and implement
bike lanes in their own jurisdictions.
The lady senator has
endorsed Move As One Coalition’s P10-billion proposed funding for walking and
cycling infrastructures, and purchase of bikes and bike racks for
bicycle-sharing programs in Metro Manila and other highly urbanized cities.
“Our
people deserve more transportation options that are practical, viable,
beneficial and safe,” Poe said.
