The modernization of the Philippine
Coast Guard (PCG) keeps on and is moving forward full steam ahead.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)
commandant Vice Admiral George V. Ursabia Jr. in an interview with AM station
DZBB last June 21 reveals that the organization has started talks for the
acquisitions of more capable and modern ships like the French made BRP Gabriela
Silang.
“Nagsimula na kami makipagusap sa
French government at sa US kung pwede,” said Ursabia.

“We are thinking of getting more
like the BRP Gabriela Silang,” Vice Admiral Ursabia adds. “We are thinking of
getting two more of which.”
BRP Gabriela Silang is an offshore
patrol vessel (OPV) made in France, is
currently being used by the PCG as a transport ship for government’s COVID-19
response efforts.
The
PCG chief reveals that BRP Gabriela Silang is really intended for patrolling
West Philippine Sea.
mga krisis,” the PCG commandant added.
