The Armed Forces of the Philippines modernization is still at full
throttle despite the pandemic brought about by the coronavirus from Wuhan,
China.
The Philippine Navy (PN) like its counterpart the Philippine Army
(PA) has its sights in acquiring the much needed BrahMos cruise missile system.
Popular and reliable MaxDefense Philippines website has reported
that the Philippine Navy under Shore-based Anti-ship Missile System Acquisition
Project, is planning to acquire 3 batteries.

It was reported that the Philippine Army (PA) under it own
Land-based Missile System Acquisition Project, would like to acquire 2
batteries.
Last year, December Department of National Defense Secretary
Delfin Lorenzana was quoted in saying that a contract for Army’s BrahMos could
possibly be signed first half of 2020.
The only problem is that with the unplanned pandemic brought about
by the novel coronavirus 2019 disease or COVID-19, it is feared that many AFP
projects slated to be signed might be shelved since budget would be aligned for
the country’s battle against the unseen infectious disease.
“The Philippine Army is interested in acquiring this type of
missile as it will strengthen our coastal defense operations,” the Philippine
Army said in October 2019.
