National Artist F. Sionil Jose details why Manny Pacquiao is qualified to run for president

A national artist made known that if senator and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao decides to run for the seat in Malacanang, he is betting his reputation that the later is very much qualified to do so.
National Artist F. Sionil Jose expressed his belief that Pacquiao is qualified to run for President in the upcoming Presidential elections in 2022.

Last week boxing promoter Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum said that Pacquiao is going to run for President when the term of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ends in 2022.

Eventually Pacquaio later denied any discussion of his political plans with the legendary boxing promoter.
Sionil in his “Hindsight” column which is also copied in his Facebook account notes that as early as now there are already some groups that are opposing Pacquiao’s candidacy, even if the boxer as yet to make a formal announcement about his intentions for the next elections.
"As a boxing icon, is he qualified?" Jose posited. "What really are the qualifications of a presidential candidate? Were Cory Aquino and her son qualified? Yes, (Ferdinand) Marcos was very qualified -- but look at what he did to this country. He is precisely the best argument against those so-called brilliant politicians who want to be President."

The national artist listed some of the reasons why senator Pacquiao is qualified to make a run for the seat in Malacanang this coming Presidential elections.
His earnings from boxing makes up for the much needed war chest in terms of financial stability.
Sionil also stressed the intelligence of Pacquiao, as evidenced by his success in boxing, "To be where he is, he trained very hard, disciplined himself, and studied himself, his opponents, their strengths and weaknesses," Jose wrote. "His response, powered by his intelligence, is automatic and quick."
The fact that he came from poverty and rose from that to be where he is right now is also a big factor for the boxer,  "Pacman" knows "that poverty is our people's most serious problem." "How to abolish it, I hope, is his first priority," Jose added.

He also highlighted Pacquiao's faith and religion, "which give him moral strength and direction."
The national artist stressed that as a leader, Senator Pacquiao should surround himself with "the hundred best people in the country," who can offer him the best advice. He must also be open to criticism, and realize that the adulation of the people is something that cannot last.
"Manny Pacquiao has a lot of physical courage," Jose concluded. "I hope he has moral courage, too."
