Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has bluntly said that fellow
senator Leila De Lima is wrong in her assertions regrading the proposed Anti-Terrorism
Act as the said bill was not drafted so that the administration can go after
its political opponents.
In a teleconference interview via Zoom with the Senate media,
Lacson clarified that the bill has a clear definition of terrorism, and does not
include legitimate dissent.
“So mali. Kasi maraming kumakalat ng disinformation kaya
dapat maging maingat ang publiko,” he said.

The former Philippine National
Police (PNP) Chief explains that the bill is not designed to go after labor strikes
and assemblies, or even those who badmouth President Duterte – as these are
covered by other laws.
“Maski murahin
nila ng murahin ang Presidente di masasaklaw nito. Ibang kaso haharapin nila,
pwedeng libel or slander. Pero di masasaklaw ang legitimate exercise ng dissent
at pagprotesta laban sa ating duly constituted authority,” he said.
Not surprised for the certification
as urgent in the House -De Lima
The detained senator in a prepared statement said the
eventual signing of the Anti-Terrorism bill into a law will just be used against
those who criticize the Duterte administration.
“Sa isang gobyernong
wala naman talagang kakayahan at sinseridad na mamuno, gagawin na lamang nya
ang kanyang tanging alam upang manatili sa kapangyarihan: manakot, maniil at
mandahas ng kanyang sariling mga mamamayan,” she said.
