Senator Panfilo
Lacson got the wind of the comment posted by Ms. Universe 2018 Catriona Gray
regarding her public support in the junking of the Anti-Terrorism Act which is
now just awaiting the signature of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for its
approval.
The senator
reiterated and explained that the said Anti-Terrorism Act of 2022 was patterned
partly after the same law of her country of birth – Australia.
The senator noted
that the country Australia has a strong democracy but has passed a law that is
even stricter anti-terrorism laws compared to the Philippine version which they
are questioning.

“With all due respect
kay Miss Universe Catriona Gray, di ba Australian siya? E kumokontra rin siya
pero batas sa Australia mas matindi sa batas natin. Hinango natin ang ibang
portion ng batas sa Australia pinapatulong namin dito,” the senator said in
an exclusive interview with AM station DZRH radio.
It is of public
knowledge that Catriona was born in Cairns, Queensland in Australia.
Lacson who is one of
the principal sponsor of the bill said he has met several times with
representatives of the United States and Australia while the bill was crafted.
“We cannot do it
alone because yan ang universal standard,” the senator said.
