A former mainstay in our primetime news, is making the news again.
Former ABS-CBN reporter Gilbert Remulla is calling out his fellow
journalist over the apparent overacting in the interpretation of position as
regards the crime of libel.
Remulla via Twitter posted his thoughts after Rappler chief executive
officer (CEO) and founder Maria Ressa and former Rappler reporter Reynaldo
Santos, Jr, has been convicted by a Regional trial Court in Manila for the
crime of cyber libel.

He cited that during the Corazon Aquino presidency, journalists did not
raise any howl or raise any issue of curtailment of the free press, when the president filed a libel case against veteran journalist
and Philippine Star columnist Louie Beltran
“When Cory Aquino, as president, successfully sued Louie Beltran for
libel, I don’t recall anyone in the media calling it the ‘death of press
freedom’ or the ‘death of democracy, “Of course, she was an Aquino,” in
his Twitter account
Remulla made the tweet after some journalists described the conviction of
Ressa and Santos as a big blow or some curtailment to the country’s press
freedom.
Ressa along with Santos was found guilty when they published in Rappler
alleging that Wilfred Keng a private citizen and business was linked to illegal
activities such as illegal drugs and human trafficking.
