Former Chinese envoy asked DND Sec. Lorenzana not to visit Pag-asa Island




Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has the distinction of being the only defense secretary whose watch the rehabilitation and modernizing of the Philippine held territory Pag-asa island in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) has began.
Jus last month, a historic day has happened because with the completion of the beaching ramp in the island Philippine Navy (PN) vessel was able to dock last May 13.

BRP Ivatan (LC298) was able to dock in the newly completed beaching ramp, the PN vessel was on a troop rotation and reprovisioning mission to the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Lorenzana, revealed to the reporters who were with them in the inauguration of the newly constructed beaching ramp in the Pag-asa island last June 9 former Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua asked him not to visit Pag-asa island
“Kinausap ako ni Ambassador Zhao, kung puwede hindi ako pumunta rito. Tinanong ko sa kanya, bakit? Sabi niya, wala pang nagpupunta diyan na Secretary of Defense,” Secretary Lorenzana said as quoted by  Maria Ressa led company - Rappler.

“Eh ‘di ako mauuna,” Lorenzana said.
In 2017, Sec. Lorenzana also visited Pag-asa island.
