The country has been trying to cope up with the demand for
masks since January when Taal volcano erupted spewing volcanic ashes to
wherever the winds blows it.
And then the novel coronavirus 2019 disease or COVID-19 came
which added to the demand for any kind of masks that can help deter being infected
with the deadly infectious disease.
Because of the glut in the supply chain, dishonest and
scrupulous sellers are taking advantage of the demand and has been raking in
the profits since the 1st quarter of this year.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his public address told the
public to be careful in online scams for face masks, he even adds that this dishonest
sellers should be "dumped into the Pasig River" despite the country dealing with the pandemic brought about by COVID-19.
"Do not go for that kind of s**t 'yung magbili-bili kayo
online, mask, tapos ka-text ninyo [na seller] is from Pampanga, from Abra. Saan
man sila magkuha ng mask doon? Wala nga sa Maynila," Duterte said in a
press conference.
animal na iyan," he added.
(Do not go for that kind of s**t where the seller you're
texting with could be in Pampanga or Abra province. Where will they masks
there? There is no masks even in Manila. Buy instead from the robbers here in
Manila. Those animals have a stock of masks.)
Duterte said the buyers should carefully inspect the face
masks they have ordered online.
"Do not fall for that thing na online-online. It has
never been perfected and all of the scams that man could think of, that they
can perpetrate on the innocent public, pinag-aaralan nila 'yan (they are
studying that)," Duterte said.
Scammers "take advantage of the misery of people,"
he said.
said.
Pasig," he said.
(If it were up to me, that's what I'll do to you: I'll tie
your feet and hands, stuff your mouth with your foul-smelling socks that have
not been washed for 5 days, gag you with a handkerchief. I'll throw you into
Pasig.)
