The news that
detained senator Leila De Lima has filed a motion for bail has reached the Department
of Justice (DOJ) Secretary’s attention.
DOJ Secretary Menardo
Guevarra is asking the opposition
senator who is used to head the same office why only now she is asking for her
temporary release on bail.
“Senator de
Lima should have done this a long time ago if she really thought that all the
evidence against her were fabricated,” the secretary said.

De Lima is
facing three (3) drug charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in
Muntinlupa city over allegations of her involvement while she was the Justice
Secretary in the illegal drug trade that proliferated based inside the New
Bilibid Prison (NBP).
DOJ
prosecutors filed charges, that led to the RTC issuing arrest warrants last
Febuary 2017 that led to her arrest.
The senator
has been detained for more than three(3) years at the Custodial Center of the
Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
